Welcome to DJ DARK

I'm an Asian and Urban Fusion music DJ based in Leicester, I am available for all your party requirements - small too big. I provide a professional, honest and friendly DJ service. I specialize for the Asian community playing for Wedding parties, Birthdays, Anniversaries etc

I DJ in the Leicestershire area but my expertise has been called to places such as Coventry, Warwickshire, Birmingham, Nottingham, Derby, Cambridge, London, Stoke on Trent and Germany to name a few

I started DJing while studying at University in 1999; I was a regular DJ on the University radio station “LUSH FM”. I aired the first Punjabi and Bhangra shows in the radios history mixing together a fusion of Bhangra, House, Drum and Bass and UK Garage

How Did You Start Out?

I started mixing the good old fashioned way using traditional 12” Vinyl’s and using my Technic SL 1210’s to mix on. I bought records each week from local record shops in Leicester and these were mostly House & Garage and Drum & Bass records. I also made regular trips to Southall in London to buy Bhangra records and then mix these with the English records to create a new live remix sound. I spent weeks perfecting my remixes, creating hour long back to back sets; so I was able to perform the same mixing, ordering, scratching and perfection in front of large crowds

From the live turntable mixing I went to mixing music on my computer and then producing fresh sounding beats and music using production tools like Reason, Fruity Loops and Acid here I found myself overlapping and cutting up vocals to put over the top of my beats

I have continued to play for parties and functions but gone are the turntables and in have come digital mp3 mixing using the latest live mixing software and MP3 controllers. I have been building up my skills and equipment for the past few years and I now feel comfortable to be able to perform week in and week out in front of large and more diverse crowds. In this time I have also learnt how to play the Dhol and I often incorporate this into my live DJ sets

Why Dark?

In the late 90's; a lot of the music I was playing was very fast, heavy, underground, eerie, technical, razor sharp sounds with heavy bass lines; a lot of people phrased these types of records dark or too dark. I was mixing a lot of this music with Punjabi and Bhangra music; I thought that this would be best name that would suit me and my style of mixing hence my name became DJ DARK – for delivering action packed fast base line mixing into Asian music intensifying the music experience
